NBA Summer League 2026: Warriors Win as Lendeborg Takes MVP

The Golden State Warriors won the 2026 NBA Summer League championship after defeating the Memphis Grizzlies 94–90 in Las Vegas. Yaxel Lendeborg led Golden State’s fourth-quarter comeback, finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds, and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

Summer League sits outside the regular competition explained in the NBA season and playoff format. Its results do not affect the standings, but teams use it to evaluate rookies, younger players, and free agents before training camp.

Golden State complete a fourth-quarter comeback

Memphis led by as many as 12 points during the championship game before Golden State changed the contest in the final quarter. The Warriors controlled the late rebounding battle and created additional possessions when the Grizzlies struggled to protect their advantage.

Lendeborg scored nine of his 21 points in the fourth quarter and collected several important rebounds. Deivon Smith also recorded 21 points for Golden State, while LJ Cryer and Will Richard provided shooting and secondary playmaking.

Cameron Boozer and Cedric Coward scored 19 points each for Memphis. Boozer’s performance completed a productive tournament in which the third overall draft pick helped carry the Grizzlies to the final.

Lendeborg earns the MVP award

Lendeborg averaged 14.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, and four assists across six games. The MVP award was selected through a vote involving all 30 NBA teams.

Golden State selected him with the 11th pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. At 23, he entered the league older than many lottery selections, bringing additional college experience and a more physically developed game.

His performances showed an ability to rebound, pass, and contribute without requiring every possession to run through him. Those qualities may help him compete for minutes in a senior Warriors rotation where quick decisions and consistent defensive effort are essential.

Summer League production does not guarantee the same role during the regular season. The opposition, line-ups, and tactical demands change considerably once established NBA players return.

The leading rookies in Las Vegas

Several of the highest selections in the 2026 draft produced notable performances:

  • AJ Dybantsa averaged 25 points and seven rebounds across two appearances for Washington.
  • Darryn Peterson averaged 20.7 points during his three games in Las Vegas.
  • Cameron Boozer averaged 18.5 points and eight rebounds while helping Memphis reach the final.
  • Caleb Wilson averaged 23.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks for Chicago.

The tournament allowed each player to handle the ball and attempt more shots than they may receive during the regular season. Their next challenge is adapting those strengths to narrower roles alongside experienced teammates.

Evaluating those roles requires more than checking points scored. The basketball rules and positions guide explains how playmaking, rebounding, defensive assignments, fouls, and positional responsibilities affect a player’s overall contribution.

The All-Summer League First Team

The official First Team included:

  • Cameron Boozer, Memphis Grizzlies
  • Brayden Burries, Milwaukee Bucks
  • Yaxel Lendeborg, Golden State Warriors
  • Meleek Thomas, Cleveland Cavaliers
  • Caleb Wilson, Chicago Bulls

The selections included early draft choices and players who improved their standing through their performances in Las Vegas. Draft position influences opportunity, but teams also evaluate decision-making, defensive effort, shooting consistency, and reactions to unfamiliar line-ups.

Why Summer League results need context

Summer League rosters change frequently, and leading rookies may be rested after only a few appearances. Some players receive major offensive roles in Las Vegas before becoming supporting options during the regular season.

These conditions also make individual games difficult to predict. Anyone comparing point spreads, totals, or match-winner prices should first understand how those markets work through the basketball betting guide, while recognising that statistical analysis cannot guarantee a result.

Training camp now provides a more demanding test. Lendeborg must earn a defined role with Golden State, while Dybantsa, Peterson, Boozer, Wilson, and the other rookies will compete against established professionals for minutes.

Their opportunities will also depend on the major roster changes completed during the 2026 NBA offseason, when several teams changed their starting line-ups and competitive direction.
